Welcome to Our Cutting-Edge Innovation Lab

At OCSCS, we are excited to introduce our Innovation Lab, a school-wide elective that pushes the boundaries of creativity and technology. Designed to immerse students in a diverse range of 21st-century skills, the Innovation Lab equips them to thrive in a fast-evolving world. Students will engage in hands-on learning across five dynamic disciplines: Art, Engineering, Video Production, Programming, and Entrepreneurship—all within a single, year-long course.

Explore Four Disciplines,

One Revolutionary Experience

Throughout the school year, students rotate through the computer science focuses, with dedicated expert teachers leading the way.

For the first year of Innovation Lab as an elective, students will rotate to a new class on the wheel after each school quarter. By the end of the year, they will have experienced ALL FOUR disciplines, gaining a broad foundation of knowledge and skills. The Innovation Lab’s unique “wheel rotation” system gives students a chance to work on everything from digital designs and coding projects to engineered prototypes and game design.

This innovative structure isn’t just about exploring different fields—it’s about connecting them. Our lab encourages students to discover how skills from one discipline can enhance and expand another. With cross-curricular projects rolling out soon, students will see first-hand how artistic creativity, technical prowess, and entrepreneurial thinking come together to solve real-world challenges.

For second and third years of Innovation Lab, students can choose between Advanced Graphic Arts A or B as an elective. These advanced classes allow students to further explore the computer sciences they were introduced to the first year.

Advanced Graphic Arts A allows students to dive deeper into Programming with Mr. Quan and Game Design with Mr. Sofka.  Advanced Graphic Arts B allows students to dive deeper into Engineering and Manufacturing with Mr. Parlapiano and Art Production with Mrs. Masone.  Students will spend one school semester in each class.

Learning with a Purpose: Skills for the Future

At the heart of the Innovation Lab is a commitment to student-driven learning and real-world application. We’ve designed the curriculum around Stanford’s Design Thinking Process (DTP), a cutting-edge framework for solving human-centered problems. Whether designing a tech solution, crafting a brand, or creating a captivating video, students will learn how to approach challenges with creativity, empathy, and a problem-solving mindset.

Our mission is clear: we aim to equip students with tangible skills that transfer directly to the workplace. Whether they dream of becoming engineers, digital artists, coders, filmmakers, or entrepreneurs, the Innovation Lab gives students the tools they need to excel.

A Hub for Creativity, Innovation, and Community

But the Innovation Lab is more than just a classroom—it’s a community resource. From producing professional-quality video announcements that celebrate both our school and the broader community, to creating custom-designed products for school events, our lab’s impact reaches far beyond the school walls. We’re also excited to host two major events this year: a Showcase/Vendor Fair in November and a Spring Awards Ceremony, where we’ll highlight student achievements and innovation.

What’s more, our students will soon be designing and selling custom products to support our school, bringing entrepreneurship to life in a way that directly benefits our community. Have a creative idea or need something unique for an event? We’re here to make it happen!

Partnership with Garner Holt Education through Imagination

Our school is thrilled to partner with Garner Holt Education Through Imagination, bringing a cutting-edge STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) learning experience to our students. Garner Holt, renowned for creating world-class animatronics for major theme parks, now uses this expertise to inspire students in a hands-on, dynamic way.

 

Through this partnership, students engage in animatronics, engineering, graphic arts, and commercial art, blending technical and creative disciplines. They gain real-world experience in fields like robotics, animation, and design, with access to high-tech tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters. This unique combination of art and engineering helps students build practical skills while exploring the creative process.

 

By learning to create projects that merge artistic expression with technology, students prepare for careers across both technical and creative industries. Our partnership with Garner Holt fosters a collaborative, project-based learning environment that equips students to thrive in STEAM fields by blending artistic creativity with engineering innovation

ESports Club

Step into the world of eSports, where gaming meets strategy, teamwork, and skill development! Led by Mr. Quan, our eSports club offers students the chance to compete in popular video games while building valuable life skills. More than just playing games, eSports fosters critical thinking, communication, leadership, and collaboration—skills that are essential both in and out of the digital arena.

 

Participants will engage in team-based competitions, learning the importance of teamwork, quick decision-making, and strategic planning. As eSports continues to grow globally, it offers students exciting opportunities to explore the world of professional gaming, game design, and even potential scholarships.
