Honors Contracts

We approach honors courses similarly to how high schools handle Advanced Placement (AP) classes. All students, regardless of their proficiency level, are welcome to take honors courses. Unlike AP classes, which often rely on high-stakes exams for credit, we assess mastery through semester-long projects.

Students demonstrate their understanding by completing these in-depth projects. Once a student successfully finishes their project, their transcript is updated to reflect the honors credit for that course, recognizing their achievement.

Earning Honors Designation on Transcripts and Recommendation for Honors in High School

At our school, students have the flexibility to choose which honors contracts they want to complete each semester. For example, a student may decide to complete all available honors contracts in the first semester (English, History, and Science) and then choose to complete only one honors contract (Science) in the second semester. This allows students and families to determine what level of academic rigor is best suited for them, helping to prepare for increased challenges in high school.

It's important to note that honors designations on transcripts are awarded only for the semesters in which honors contracts are successfully completed. Completing an honors contract in one semester does not apply to the entire year. Additionally, while we will recommend students for honors placement in high school based on their successful completion of a contract in a particular subject, we will automatically recommend honors placement for those who successfully complete contracts in both semesters.

This system empowers students to manage their workload while still ensuring they are prepared for the rigor of future academic challenges.
